Early Childhood
We are working with schools in our county to improve the number of students reading at a proficient level by third grade.
Third-grade reading proficiency is built on a strong foundation in early childhood, and that’s why we offer programs focused on our youngest learners. Our Early On, Early Childhood Special Education, and Head Start and Great Start preschool programs and services help prepare children to enter school and succeed.
The number of third-grade students in Livingston County reading at a proficient level increased by 14.1% from 2015 to 20181. By assisting schools as they implement research-supported teaching practices and methods to monitor students’ progress, we’re supporting teachers and their efforts to further improve reading proficiency.
