Handle with Care
When law enforcement identifies a school-aged child who experienced or witnessed a traumatic incident, officers verify the child's name and the school they attend.
The officer sends a confidential Handle with Care notice to the child's school before school starts the following day that simply says, "Handle Johnny with care." School staff handle the child with care and respond to them in a trauma-sensitive way.
NO DETAILS about the incident are provided to school personnel.
If you have questions or want to know more about the Handle with Care initiative, don't hesitate to contact Douglas Haseley, Assistant Superintendent of Special Education at [email protected], or 517.540.6803.
