Expansion of Free Preschool Opportunities Now Available

Howell, MI:  Livingston Educational Service Agency (Livingston ESA) has added three new Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) preschool classrooms, creating the chance for more 4-year-olds in Livingston County to get a great start in school. GSRP provides high-quality preschool programs to eligible families with children aged four at reduced or no cost for families.

Michigan’s GSRP is one of only four in the country that meets all ten quality standards from the National Institute of Early Education Research (NIEER), which assesses things like curriculum supports, teacher credential requirements, class sizes, student-teacher ratios, and child screenings. In Spring 2022, 87% of students in Livingston County who completed the program met or exceeded developmental expectations in Literacy and Math, and 90% met or exceeded developmental expectations in Social Emotional Learning. In January, Livingston ESA opened new preschool classrooms in Brighton, Hartland, and Pinckney Schools, and enrollment is encouraged before February 15th. There are also classroom openings in Fowlerville and Howell. More information about enrollment and enrollment forms can be found at StartFreePreschool.org.  To speak with our enrollment specialist, Teresa Grostic, call 517.540.6847.

Sean LaRosa, Assistant Superintendent for Early Learning, said, “We want to fill every available spot. Families may think they won’t qualify, but many are surprised that they are eligible for free preschool. We help navigate the process and would rather have people apply and find out than not apply.”
