On March 21, Livingston County hosted its second annual Parent Summit at Parker Middle School, welcoming caregivers, families, educators, and community members from across the region for a morning of connection, learning, and support.
Parenting has always come with challenges—but in today’s digital landscape, those challenges are evolving faster than ever. Between screens, social media, gaming, artificial intelligence, and the constant pull of “just one more scroll,” caregivers are navigating a world that looks very different from the one they grew up in. The Parent Summit was created to meet that moment—offering a space where families can pause, reflect, and walk away with practical tools, trusted guidance, and a sense of community.
Hosted by Livingston Educational Service Agency (LESA) in partnership with Community Bible Church, the Parent Summit was thoughtfully designed around this year’s theme, Tech, Talk, & Wellbeing. The event featured five keynote speakers who shared insight and expertise on navigating technology, building healthy communication habits, and supporting overall family wellbeing.
In addition to keynote sessions, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a variety of breakout sessions led by respected local and national presenters. These “choose-your-need” sessions allowed families to personalize their experience based on their current challenges and interests.
Recognizing the importance of inclusive support, the summit also offered dedicated breakout sessions for families of children with developmental disabilities. These sessions provided targeted resources, strategies, and connections—ensuring every family felt seen, supported, and valued.
Throughout the morning, attendees could also explore a Wellness Fair featuring a wide range of local organizations and professionals. The fair created a one-stop opportunity for families to connect with resources, ask questions, and build relationships with those who can support them beyond the event.
The event experience extended beyond educational sessions. Guests were welcomed with free breakfast and enjoyed live performances from the Hartland High School Jazz Band and the Voices of Voyager Choir, adding energy and community spirit to the morning. In addition, free childcare was provided on-site thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, allowing caregivers to fully engage in the summit.
The Parent Summit was made possible through the collaboration and support of Livingston Educational Service Agency, Community Bible Church, Agape City Church, and The Arc Livingston. Their shared commitment to strengthening families and building community was evident throughout the event.
With strong attendance and meaningful engagement, this year’s summit served as a powerful example of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose: supporting families and helping children thrive.
Organizers are already looking ahead to next year’s Parent Summit, with plans to continue growing the event and expanding its impact. As the needs of families continue to evolve, so too will this effort—ensuring Livingston County remains a place where caregivers feel supported, informed, and connected.
