Honoring Excellence

Over the past several months, Laurie Spadoni has taken on the significant responsibility of onboarding all GSRP staff – in addition to her already extensive role – and has handled this tremendous undertaking with professionalism, patience, and grace.

As Director of Human Resources, Laurie plays a critical role in supporting employees and strengthening systems across Livingston ESA. Her position requires her to balance competing priorities, navigate complex situations, and ensure staff receive the guidance and support they need. Since January 1, 2026 alone, Laurie has helped onboard more than 50 new employees through the Livingston County Early Childhood Collaboration, all while continuing to manage her regular responsibilities, including overseeing hiring policies, generating salary calculations, supporting benefits, and assisting with hiring decisions.

“No matter what comes her way, Laurie approaches each situation with patience, positivity, and a solutions-focused mindset,” said Judy Paulsen. “We are incredibly fortunate to have Laurie’s leadership, commitment, and warmth on our team. She is truly an amazing person and an invaluable member of our team.”

Laurie works closely with new and current employees, ensuring they feel informed, supported, and confident as they navigate employment processes. She takes time to meet individually with staff to explain salaries, benefits, and policies, and is known for making even the most complex information feel clear and manageable. Her steady presence and attention to detail help ensure both employees and programs are set up for success.

“Laurie is compassionate and caring and takes time to support employees personally while expertly balancing those efforts with district policies,” said Mandy Rutzel.

Her leadership is especially evident within the Administrative Services Department, where her depth of knowledge and willingness to step in wherever needed helps everything run smoothly.

“Laurie truly is an amazing leader. She is always supportive and goes above and beyond for everyone,” said Jamie Douglas. “Her knowledge helps ensure everything runs smoothly, and even when she is managing an overwhelming workload herself, she still asks what she can do to help the rest of us.”

That same support is felt by those new to the agency as well.

“Laurie truly has a gift for what she does,” said Angela Geyer. “From day one, she made me feel welcomed and part of the team. She always takes the time to answer my questions thoroughly and makes sure I understand. She has a calm, ‘we will figure it out’ attitude, and I am truly grateful to work with and learn from her.”

Laurie’s impact extends beyond her technical expertise. She meets people where they are, takes time to understand their needs, and ensures they feel heard and supported. Her guidance has helped countless colleagues grow and succeed.

“I have worked under her for many years, and I’m so grateful for everything she has taught me,” said Jenny Killian. “She truly cares about my success and works hard to give me the tools I need to move forward and excel.”

Laurie has been with Livingston ESA since October of 2013 and has served in multiple roles with Administrative Services, including Payroll and HR Specialist, Accounting Coordinator, Supervisor of Human Resources, Payroll, and Benefits, and now Director of Human Resources.

Throughout her career, she has built a reputation as a trusted, knowledgable, and compassionate leader whose work strengthens the entire organization.

Much of Laurie’s work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across every department. Her commitment, leadership, and genuine care for others help create a supportive environment where staff and programs can thrive.

As Laurie looks forward to becoming a first-time grandmother, those who know her have no doubt she will bring the same warmth, patience, and dedication to that new role as she brings to her work each day.

Livingston ESA is proud to honor Laurie Spadoni for her excellence, leadership, and unwavering commitment during the month of March, and we are grateful for the lasting difference she continues to make across our agency and community.
