Honoring Excellence - Celebrating the people who shape Livingston ESA

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) recently featured a Livingston Educational Service Agency program in its “25 for 25” article, recognizing innovative workforce development efforts across the state. Among those highlighted was LESA’s customized custodial apprenticeship program—an initiative made possible through the dedication and leadership of Head of Facilities, Brian Braden.

The custodial apprenticeship program provides adult transition students with meaningful, hands-on employment opportunities while developing real-world job skills. While the program added responsibilities to Brian’s already full role, he embraced the opportunity without hesitation.

“Brian has been a very willing participant,” said LESA's Director of Transition and Job Attainment Alana Anderson. “Without his willingness and ‘open-door’ mindset, this program would not have been possible.”

Beyond the apprenticeship program, Brian’s impact is felt throughout the agency each and every day. Whether moving heavy furniture to create new learning spaces, assisting with building improvements, or responding to last-minute needs, Brian consistently steps in wherever help is needed to support students and staff.

If someone needs something built, fixed, located, or hauled away, Brian is often the first person they call. Staff members shared countless examples of his problem-solving and care—from designing custom cabinet toppers to prevent damage, to precisely cutting plexiglass to meet a specific student need.

Brian began working with Livingston ESA in March of 2000 and has spent the last 25 years maintaining facilities, supporting programs, and helping the agency grow. During his tenure, he has played an integral role in building additions, opening new facilities, and creating spaces that better serve learners across the county. Today, his work extends even further as he helps serve students not only through facilities support, but as an educator within the apprenticeship program itself.

Much of Brian’s work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout the agency. His dedication, creativity, and servant leadership continue to make a meaningful difference for learners and colleagues alike.

“He truly has a heart of gold and a passion for service,” Anderson added.

Livingston ESA is proud to recognize Brian Braden for his excellence and commitment during the month of February—and grateful for the lasting contributions he continues to make to the agency and its mission.
