Assistive Technology (AT) supports the needs of students with disabilities through a cooperative effort between local districts, the LESA, and related support agencies. Providing appropriate assistive technology is an ongoing process that includes consideration of a student's present level of performance and tasks to be accomplished, a trial period to see if a tool will be effective, and an implementation plan for future tool use. It requires a collaborative school-based team approach to build the capacity to use technology to improve the performance of struggling students. LESA assistive technology services include consultation to local district teams, workshops and training to build capacity, and a lending library of assistive devices and software for trial purposes.
