{Kids} Special Education Services Overview
LESA delivers a wide range of services for students with disabilities residing in Livingston County- both within the local districts and in our ISD-operated programs. Approximately 4,000 students with disabilities are currently being served by Livingston County's five local school districts, its public school academies and registered nonpublic schools, and LESA. The large majority of our students with disabilities are provided programming within their resident district. Administrative Services and Compliance The LESA special education leadership team collaborates with Livingston County's local districts to plan, develop, and provide quality services to students with disabilities in county schools, including the following: • Development of the Special Education ISD Plan • Continuous Improvement Monitoring and compliance activities • Program supervision/administrative oversight • Support for countywide collaborative initiatives • Technical assistance
Student Evaluation, Instruction and Support Services Classroom Programs: LESA operates center-based programs for each of the local districts in Livingston County to support approximately 300 students with disabilities that include cognitive impairments, severe multiple impairments, and autistic spectrum disorders. Some of these programs are on the LESA campus, while others are housed in local school buildings. Presently, LESA operates programs for students with disabilities from birth through age 26, as well as early childhood special education and early intervention programs.
Ancillary Staff Services: The majority of our special education staff are assigned to support students, staff, and parents in the local districts, in our LESA programs, and in Early On, HeadStart, and Great Start Readiness Programs. LESA currently employs the following types of ancillary staff:
